♣ The Dust of His Feet

His lightnings light up the world;
     the earth sees and trembles. – Psalm 97:4

Just two nights ago, I stood outdoors with my wife marvelling at the splendour of heat lightning; the rhythmic flashes that flicker the night sky all around into day. It makes one feel how small we all really are in the light of this amazing display of dance and the resonating peals of thunder that literally shake and vibrate the very core of ones being, awakening us out of our own little worlds to a greater Reality that we so easily forget.

At such times, I’m often reminded of God’s throne and total rule, His sovereignty and His majesty that John describes in Revelation 4. Such earthly displays in comparison are but the dust of his feet, but they are a reminder, especially in the days of chaos we live, that He is still in absolute control, continually and faithfully unfolding His decrees and plans established before the foundation of this world.

One stands amazed at the fool who says “There is no God”, at how society defies the Lord of lords, and how our ‘culture-relevant-Christianity’ worships so little the God Who called and created out of nothing the wonders of beauty that constrain us to pause being spellbound and dumbfounded – where even science ceases to ‘analyse’ and sinks under the weight and glory of the unexplainable.
