♣ Beyond Our Expectations

Deep Valleys High Mountains

“And no one after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’ ” – Luke 5:39

“Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” – John 2:10

BOTH OF THE above accounts appear to contradict one another – and they do! God Who created time is before and after it; as with gravity and the laws of physics, He can defy it; as with nature, He can override it; as with men and women, He draws to their knees in mysterious adoration. By Him and through Him all things exist and consist and hold together and all that have their being and move are subservient to Him.

God performs the impossible, goes beyond our highest expectations, supersedes all limitations and what appear to be contradictions are but the miraculous where humanity fails to logically explain.

With God, the best is always yet to be. We may think our best years have already been as we prepare for mediocrity, but in God’s economy it is always the higher climb, despite the descent into low valleys of discipline and suffering in order to reach the heights.

Our ways are limited and conditional; God’s ways are infinitely higher and often times totally unexpected. Where we are inclined to give up and lose all hope, He works in ways we could never possibly dream; our spiritual deserts are turned into an oasis and our prisons transfigured into palaces.
