♣ Echoes of Barabbas’ Release
Posted by Shade of the Moriah Tree
“But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that he should be crucified. And their voices prevailed. So Pilate decided that their demand should be granted. He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus over to their will.” – Luke 23:23-25
IT DOESN’T TAKE much to realize that we live in an era where our present administration elevates wrong and devaluates right; praises immorality while frowning on morality; calls good, wrong and wrong, right. The innocent are arrested; the guilty, set free.
While many will state that governing authorities have always operated in such unethical ways, I would strongly differ and factually state that we live in a time where many acts of fraud and treason make Richard Nixon and the Watergate Scandal sound petty and trivial in comparison. Today’s Self Servants (no longer Public Servants – let’s not forget that) secure their credibility while avoiding accountability; will compromise for their own promotions at the neglect of its citizen’s welfare; will snatch at larger salaries at the cost of others poverty. They fear lack of security more than honouring right principles. Liberalism and multiculturalism is desensitizing our perception to differentiate between right and wrong – especially our younger generation. The liberal’s road to ‘freedom’ is actually an overthrowing of the American Constitution that exists to protect the welfare of all society.
We have often heard it said that the people should not fear the government, but rather, the government should fear the people. While that statement contains great truth, there is always the other side of the coin: if lawlessness and anarchy erupts and festers in a society, then measures need to be carried out to bring back order and stability, not tyranny – that is a whole different matter – but a humane governing that ensures the freedom and best interests of the people.
Peter states in his first epistle, chapter 2:13 “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether it be the emperor as supreme, or to governors as sent by Him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.” That is what the governing authorities are there for. Listen to Paul: “For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer” (Romans 13:3-4).
That is how the government ought to function and God has instituted such authorities to restrain evil, but when you have the powers that pervert and abuse such authority, think not for one second they will escape God’s wrath and judgement. Smirk with arrogance as many of them do, but standing before the judgement seat of Christ, Who has ultimate power over their souls and the very breath they draw this very moment, will quickly alter their demeanour. For many of them, this place is the only ‘heaven’ they will know, but what will that amount to in light of an eternity spent under God’s reserved and unrestrained wrath?
Not only do we observe this God-defying ‘rule’ in our present administration, but the spiritual climate of the average (not all) American people renders them incapable to make right choices and vote the right people in office – not from a selfish point of view, but rather in light of the countless, selfless sacrifice of lives, long gone, given to ensure this nation would continue as a land of liberty. We are so far-gone, morally speaking, that I doubt whether we (as a whole) have even the ability to hang our heads in shame – let alone the backbone of moral grit to turn back the tide.
Who would have believed that homosexual conduct and marriages would be the norm today? Worse still, who would have believed that to think and state such conduct is not only unbiblical, but improper and abnormal on moral and medical grounds would be punishable by law? Are we surprised that bestiality has been legalized in 23 states of America and no doubt will be on the increase? Furthermore, are we prepared for paedophilia to be accepted as normal behaviour under the freedom and choice of sexual orientation?
How is it we don’t hear in main stream news media of Islamic honour killings taking place in America? Why is sharia law being allowed to grow like poison ivy in this country? Why are millions upon millions of US taxpayer’s dollars given in support of terrorists when we are ludicrously in debt and it’s killing our own economy? Why isn’t it taken seriously and why is the ‘sword’ of righteous justice placed back in its scabbard? Who is answering for the Benghazi attack and the staged slaughter of our soldiers? How is taking innocent lives justifiable and why are survivors being forced to remain silent? Why are aborted human foetuses – murdered babies – utilized for research, development processes or human consumption, let alone usurping their right to be born?!
Too many politicians want ‘that vote’, and to achieve those numbers they will appeal to a depraved society rather than stand for what is right and true because of a wrong fear; a fear of not obtaining or maintaining their position of power. In exchange for their political status, millions of unborn lives have paid a price and thousands of patriotic soldiers have sacrificed their own in vain for an unbeknown corrupt, unjust and greedy cause. How is it possible that an enigma can continue to ruin – not run – this country, and sell out America to its enemies in preparation for its fall?
This is beyond politics; this is organized crime of the highest order that is made to look justifiable in the eyes of the public and many foolishly buy into and support it despite the repeated documented evidence and warnings. No one seems to have a fearless perseverance for righteousness and justice – not in the sense to report it, talk about it and create a little stir – but to carry it through, no matter what the cost.
Earling Carothers “Jim” Garrison, District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana was willing to risk everything, bringing to justice the murder of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy; his reputation and very life were threatened, but that didn’t deter him. His sense of God-given principles and convictions drove him to the lengths he was able to go. O for more men like him in our courts of law! No one has any business working in a justice department if they are unwilling to advocate on behalf of the innocent in righteousness, no matter the cost.
We certainly live in the days that echo Barabbas’ release; a life convicted of crime in exchange for a life that was perfect and innocent; in an era where our government is not only eager to overthrow a Constitution that has been the moral backbone of this nation – but where a liberal majority demands an implementation of a licentious code of living.
Surely our leaders could take a stand if they wanted to. They know what’s right and wrong but for fear of losing votes and public support, they will give to the crowd what they want, and that is the epitome of crime: to know what is right and yet refuse to live and walk in the light of that knowledge. So while the government may have the final say, it is critical how we as ‘the people’ conduct our lives, choices and decisions, to either live in defiance or obedience to God.
Just as Pontius Pilate knew that Christ was innocent, he went against his conscience and the warnings given him, thus betraying his own soul. As a church elder once said, “Pilate will spend all of eternity trying to wash from the palms of his hands Christ’s innocent blood, but such stains are irremovable.”
The consequences be upon our heads.
