I was just reading an article by Open Doors ministry that 2015 was the worst year in modern history for Christian persecution, with 7,100 killed for faith-related reasons and 2,400 churches destroyed or damaged. And somewhere I read that the there were more Christian martyrs in the 20th century than ever in history. It’s happening, and the Bible says it will happen in increasing measure in the last days, we just don’t see it in countries where the church is more comfortably situated within the culture. Voice of the Martyrs is another great ministry helping the persecuted church around the world. It’s at http://www.persecution.com
It’s in our westernised and sophisticated civilisations that haven’t a clue when it comes to persecution, but it’s coming.
It is coming, and I pray God prepares us and preserves our faith in the midst. We’ve grown so used to the lies telling us comfort is the normal Christian life, it will be that much more difficult when it comes time to suffer.
If we’re His, He will preserve us. Leonard Ravenhill once said, “Either we learn to concentrate in prayer or we’ll be praying in concentration camps…” God will see to it that He upsets our nest if we get too comfortable.
True words, good quote, and much-needed reminder. Thank you
