♣ What is Trusting with All of Our Heart?

Trust

HOW MANY OF us can honestly say we trust in the Lord with all of our hearts? How many of us can pray, “Lord, I trust You with all of my heart”? I’m sure most of us will immediately answer, “Well, of course I do… why wouldn’t I?” but how many of us do trust with our entire heart? Are we unwavering in our trust? This is not a matter of trusting God in the area of salvation; we know there is no other way – we dare not trust in ourselves – but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty situations of every day living, where things go beyond not running smoothly to where things look impossible to change or solve, how do we measure in our trust then? Isn’t it the case with so many who will have confidence in God for entire salvation, but quite another in the area of work, finances, medical, homes, vehicles, clothing and food? Why are we prone to trusting God more for what is impossible with man (saving oneself) and not with the lesser important aspects of life that God knows we need? Wouldn’t it make more sense to switch the order of those things the other way round?

What is Trusting God with all of our Heart? I’m sure, if many of us were honest, we will admit our trust is not always as strong as we would desire it to be; we are not consistently vigorous in our confidence in God. If such were not the case then why on earth do we have our down days? Why is it that some days are an uphill struggle to have a child-like confidence in God? One day we may be full of exuberant trust in God and then the next day wading our way through a pit of despair, but that doesn’t mean we are not trusting God. Not trusting in God is a refusal to look up to Him and a giving way to all the pessimism that can flood our souls. Some days are harder than others; the winds of opposition don’t always blow bitterly cold. In our struggle to trust in God and not yielding to the atmosphere of despair is trusting God with all our hearts. We may not feel as strong in our faith as other days, but through it all we are placing our confidence in God, even if we have to do it a thousand times a day.

God is not going to cast us off to one side if we are struggling until we are shining brightly in faith. When faith is being tested it is often under immense stress and where it may seem to be failing is actually the very reinforcing of it. God remembers that we are dust; He knows us and what we are made of (Psalm 103:14).

Some one who has a naturally strong physical constitution may feel extremely weak one day, nevertheless they exert themselves with what strength they have to do all that they can. They may not accomplish as much as they normally do, but that never entails they had not given their all and this is exactly the point in regards to trusting God with ALL of our hearts. God knows exactly what we’re up against and “a bruised reed He will not break and a faintly burning wick He will not quench” (Isaiah 42:3). God will not abandon the good work He has started; faith that has been born of God is imperishable (1 Peter 1:23).

This is not to make us lax in faith but rather to wax stronger and so may it ever be our prayer: “Lord, increase our faith.”
